Abstract

Interview with Tom Gunning, in which he talks about his cinephile and intellectual career, his academic trajectory, as well as his first years of research. Gunning also highlights dialogues with other colleagues of his generation, such as Noël Burch, David Bordwell, Thomas Elsaesser and Laura Mulvey. The concepts of cinema of attraction, the role of a formalistic analysis in film history and the issue of racism in the work of D.W. Griffith are some of the topics covered.
